Alentejo

The south of Portugal: warm, wide and flat, with olive trees and cork oaks between the vines. The reds are ripe and round, based on Trincadeira, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet. But the Alentejo also has something no other region in Europe has preserved on this scale: the talha, the clay amphora in which the Romans already made wine and in which a handful of producers are making it again today. Those wines are rawer, more direct and often cloudy — and they say something about how wine tasted before oak. From us, among others Quinta do Mouro and XXVI Talhas.
