Portugal has more than two hundred and fifty indigenous grape varieties, most of which grow nowhere else in the world. That is why Portuguese wine rarely tastes like something you already know. The country runs from the cool, green northwest to the hot plains of the Alentejo and the volcanic islands in the Atlantic, and every region has its own grapes, its own soils and its own way of working. We choose region by region, from producers we visit ourselves rather than from trading houses. What you find here ranges from ten-euro bottles to wines that will keep for decades.
